Dyed muslin and other fabrics
Winter/Spring 2016

In three-dimensional illustrations, I create costumes which describe each my seven personalities, here called “perspectives”. My aim is to give each perspective form, show who we are and what we value, and share the interactions between us that, until this point, only I have ever been able to experience within my own head. They are displayed in the order in which they first appeared; the left-most costume represents my first personality, and the right-most represents one who has split off only a few months before I began this project.

By working primarily with muslin, I hope to express the “in-progress” quality of each perspective, as a characteristic of humanity; we are all in progress as people, constantly changing and developing. While each costume is complete, they only depict us as we are now, and not who we will become.

Other fabrics, as well as their colors and the styles of dress referenced in each costume, relate to the particular interests of each perspective. In creating these costumes I borrow from a variety of styles; mainly, these include manga character designs, traditional and ancient Mediterranean clothing, and subcultures such as punk, kink, and lolita dress, as they pertain to each perspective’s character.
